Walk to help homeless animals

On  Sunday Sept 26th A Tail at a Time will be joining Best Friends Animal Society for Strut your Mutt. The 1.8 mile walk will begin and end at Pier 84 on the Hudson River. Time is at 8:30 a.m. This is located near the Intrepid on W 44th. Not only is this a great fundraiser it also is a festival of doggie activities!
Belly Rub Hub (free doggie massages to participating pooches),
Downward Dog (you and your best friend can practice your Dogi moves)
Canine Cafe (free yummy treats from local bakeries).

Plus don't miss training demos, contests, games, photo opps, pet psychic, food, music and more!

Our team, the dog pack, are looking for walkers. If you don't feel like waking up at the crack of dawn (8 am) then be one of our sponsors by becoming a dog dozer or a cat napper. Donate as little as 10.00. Every dollar helps!
Did you know that $5.00  can feed 5 cats or dogs for a day?
$25.00 is enough to get a cat or dog fixed. In NYC over population is a major problem. You may not see it but in certain areas of the city there are cats and dogs that are thrown out like the garbage once they go into heat. Eventually them and their babies land at the Animal Care and Control. The ACC has to take every animal that comes to their door. Last year approximately 15,000 pets were euthanised. They were killed.

Come have some fun with us for a great cause!

In case you wanted company for a few weeks

Ben is a seven year old mellow orange tabby who's foster is going out of town for a bit.  He just needs a place to crash until June 24th.  Can you look after him?  He's declawed so you don't even have to think about your furniture.

If you or any of your friends have been thinking about fostering but weren't sure if it was right for you, this is a great way to test it out!  Email info@atailatatime.org.  Thank you!

Meow Monday

Hi! My name is Elodie, and I'm a very sweet and super attractive one year old brown tabby, so it surprised me to find myself walking down Myrtle Avenue desperate for someone to take me home. Times are hard and my former owner must not have been able to afford to keep me anymore. That could be the only reason, because I am agreeable, easy to care for and a lot of fun. Take me home! Please!

Aren't I gorgeous?

If you'd like to foster or adopt Elodie please email adopt@atailatatime.org.

Monday Meow

Hazel in the sun

Hazel is a beautiful, friendly and playful tabby.  She became a mom at an early age, raised and weaned her kittens, and is now looking for a home of her own.  Still just a kitten herself, she is currently living with a dog and loves to cuddle with her humans.  When I first met Hazel she immediately started rubbing her head against my hand, always a good sign.

Monday Meow

Buddy is a super sweet nine-month-old kitten.  He is your typical orange tabby -- friendly, loveable, affectionate and playful. Did we mention gorgeous?  He loves to sit with you while you read or watch TV, but he prefers a sofa cushion to a lap.  He gets along well with other cats, yet he's also independent enough to be an only pet.  Right now he's being being fostered with Pippy and they get along great! Fully vetted, he's to be your best Buddy.

Monday Meow

Midnight is luscious black cat with a small white patch on her chest and fantastically soft fur.  She is affectionate, likes to be petted and seems to enjoy being picked up.  At a year old and weighing eight pounds, she's sweet and petit.  She'll make a wonderful pet.

Midnight was owner-surrendered due to allergies.  They're loss, our gain!  Look at those beautiful eyes!  Also, if you have a pet bird who's looking for companionship, Midnight is a friend to all birds!  She loves them -- and not in an eating kind of way.

If you or someone you know is interested in giving Midnight her furrrrever home, email us at info@atailatatime.org or visit our website at www.atailatatime.org for more information.

And Gus and Floyd, two sweet little boys:

Weekly Feature

Hazel is a ten-month old kitten who had a litter of her own kittens just seven weeks ago.  She's a wonderful mama and a wonderful pet.  She's very affectionate, friendly, playful and loves to be petted and cuddled.

Oooh, yeah... right there... little to the left... purrrrrrfect!

Right now Hazel is living in a foster home with her daughter, Bailey.

Snack time!
(Bailey eats regular kitten food, but she nurses for comfort.)

This beautiful mama would make a great addition to just about any family.  For more information about Hazel, Bailey, or any of our other adoptable cats and kittens, visit our website at www.atailatatime.org or email info@atailatatime.org.

Jay

Jay is a young cat who was pulled from the kill list three weeks ago.  She was released without being spayed because she was too sick for surgery.  Low and behold, just a few weeks after A Tail got her, we found several small lumps in her belly.  Several small lumps that jump and squirm and wiggle.  Either she's been probed by aliens or she's going to have kittens!!

Weekly Feature

Sookie is a beautiful dilute tortie who is only a year old.  She enjoys cramming her body into very small spaces and chirping loudly to get your attention.

Sookie is shy because she came out of a hoarding situation, but give her a little bit of time and she'll open up.  Talk to her when she starts chirping and you'll find she can talk for hours.  I'm sure this pretty girl has a lot to tell whoever decides to take her home.

Recently Sookie met two motherless kittens and to everyone's surprise she adopted them as if they were her own.  She's particularly bonded with Steve, a two month old spotted heartbreaker.

Featured Adoptable

You may recognize Karina from last week's featured adoptable.  She's being featured again this week because she really is an awesome cat who deserves a little extra love.  Karina's a fighter.  She was hit by car when she was a kitten and instead of sitting around feeling sorry for herself she taught herself to walk on two legs.  She moves so well you won't even notice she's not using her hind legs.  She's also a lover -- she wants to be petted and stroked, she wants a warm lap to curl up in, and she wants someone to play with.  She's a good girl and she deserves a great home.

If you or someone you know might be interested in meeting Karina, visit our website www.atailatatime.org or email us at info@atailatatime.org for more information.

Looking for Foster Families

Welcome to Spring - a.k.a Kitten Season.  This is the time of year when unaltered cats give birth to litters of kittens and the kill list at the local shelters explode.  This means that many rescuers begin only pulling kittens from the shelters, leaving the adult cats to die.  A Tail At A Time pulled two adult cats this weekend and they need foster homes!

This is Frisky.  He looks terrified in the photo because he is.  He'd just been relinquished by a family who could no longer afford the regular costs of owning a cat.  Frisky loves all people of all shapes, sizes and ages.  He's 9.9 pounds and only 11 months old. He's never been around other animals, so he'll probably do best in a home where he's the only animal.

This beauty is Roz, a gray tiger/Maine Coon who was found as a stray.  She's two years old, 7.4 pounds, and looking forward to having a safe, warm place to sleep.  She's not feral -- she was most likely abandoned.

If you have room in your heart and your home to take in either of these cats as a foster, or a foster-to-adopt, or if you know someone who might be interested in lending these kitty's a little love, please email us at info@atailatatime.org or you can visit our website, www.atailatatime.org, for more information.

P.S. We're now official members of the Mayor's Alliance of NYC!  Congratulations to A Tail At A Time!

Featured Adoptable

Meet Karina:

A beautiful two-year old brown tabby who was hit by a car when she was a kitten.  As a result, her back legs are completely paralyzed.  But Karina is an inspiration -- in the face of adversity she has prevailed.  She taught herself to walk using only her front legs and if you could see how well she moves, you'd never guess she was different than any other cat.

Karina is loving and affectionate, playful and full of personality.  She uses the litter box same as any other cat and loves attention.  The only extra care she requires is your love and devotion.  Is that too much to ask?  I didn't think so.

If you'd like to know more about Karina, or if you're interested in adopting or fostering, please email us at info@atailatatime.org or visit our website at www.atailatatime.org.

Just another Moby Monday

This week's featured adoptable is our beloved Moby:

Moby is a three-year-old Russian Blue mix who was given up by his family because of a new baby's allergies.  He's a big beautiful boy, neutered, fully vetted.  He is a little bit of an escape artist and because of that, is down to eight of his nine lives.  When we first got a hold of him he slipped out of his foster home and fell or was thrown off a seven story building.  We're not exactly sure what happened but you can read about his hospital stay here and here.  The story isn't a happy one, but the ending is good.  Moby is all healed and looking for a home.

If you're thinking about adopting a cat, Moby will surely steal your heart.  For more information, email us at info@atailatatime.org or visit our website at www.atailatatime.org.

Puffy like Puff Daddy

Puff the magic kitty is a sweet tempered, declawed Russian Blue who's owner recently passed away.  He's a little overweight, but he'll shed the extra pounds quickly now that he's out of the shelter and in a loving foster home.  He's five years old, neutered, healthy, current on his shots, and litter box trained.

This handsome Russian Blue Mix won't be homeless forever.  Don't you want to be the one who welcomes him home?  Email us at info@atailatatime.org or visit our website www.atailatatime.org for more information.

Friday Feature

I am Pushkin,
Hear me purr

The Russian Blue is known for being a very intelligent and tranquil animal. People have reported Russian Blue's who enjoy playing fetch and are sensitive to human emotions. They develop extremely loyal bonds with their loved ones, yet are reserved and shy around strangers.

Russian Blues have an average life expectancy of around 10–15 years, have few health problems, little to no genetic problems, and are not prone to illness. They are a moderate-sized cat with an average weight of 8-12 pounds when full grown. Males are typically larger than females.

The Russian Blue produces less glycoprotein Fel d 1 and is much less of an allergen source than other breeds of cat. This would suggest that the Russian Blue breed may be hypoallergenic, but others point out that no cat is truly free of allergens.

Pushkin is an eight-year-old female Russian Blue who gets along with other cats but prefers the company of mature companions. She would be perfectly happy being your only pet if it would mean being the apple of your eye. For more information, visit www.atailatatime.org or email info@atailatatime.org.
